Why GI Testing?
Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, once said that “ all disease begins in the gut”. This statement is proven to be true even now after 2000 years. I guess there are few exceptions like genetic disease, but most chronic diseases have the root cause in gut disease.
This is why I use this test called GI MAP to look deeper into gut health. This is one of the first tests I use for most of my patients because it sheds light into the root cause.
Ideally, the ‘good bacteria’ should dominate over ‘bad bacteria’ by a 85:15 ration. However, lots of people experience a huge change in this ratio therefore, they suffer of dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is caused by environmental toxins, including poor diet choices, which wipe out good bacteria and thus encouraging bad bacteria and parasitic growth.
Bad Bacteria and parasites lead to inflammation which leads to disease and poor quality of life.
This test is special as it looks for microorganisms DNA in the stool in an accurate and reliable way. This test is looking for bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses, including normal flora, opportunistic organisms and antibiotic resistance genes. Here is a sample report to see how extensive this test is and what to expect from such a test.
